Lacking volume and density, with flat hair and dull ends, your fine hair is a source of despair. While we can't go against the nature of our hair, we can nevertheless adopt new reflexes and the best professional advice to restore vigor and volume to our fine hair.
What is fine hair?
Some hair is naturally thinner than others, as the thickness of the hair fiber varies from person to person. This is generally due to three causes: genetics, unhealthy hair or aging.
- Genetic, they're thin by nature, you get that from your father or your mother.
- In poor health, this is due to the use of unsuitable products, aggressive methods (heat, straightening, perming, bleaching...), medical treatments, poor diet, smoking, external aggressions (pollution, UV, wind...).
- As you age, your hair, like your skin, undergoes changes: scalp microcirculation is no longer as active, the hair fiber thins, hair becomes less dense and you have less volume.
Generally speaking, fine hair is fragile, flat, does not appreciate a certain number of shampoos, treatments and styling products, and is difficult to style. It's not easy to deal with on a daily basis, unless you adopt the right reflexes and care products.
A healthy lifestyle
Christophe Nicolas Biot believes that beautiful hair cannot be achieved without good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. Over and above the internal health benefits, a balanced diet provides skin and hair with the vitamins, minerals and nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy. External aggressors such as tobacco, pollution, UV rays, alcohol and invasive techniques damage hair and impoverish the scalp, which produces sebum to defend itself. All these factors contribute to the problem of fine, untoned hair.

What treatments and shampoos should I use for fine hair?
Christophe Nicolas Biot advises using shampoos specifically designed for fine hair, which will naturally coat the hair without weighing it down. His recommendation? " Shampoos with white clay, a natural ingredient that purifies and coats hair. I'm against shampooing every day, as it takes too much of a toll on the scalp. Ideally, leave in for two days. If hair is greasy at the roots, work with a natural dry shampoo based on talcum powder and nettle powder, which doesn't leave a deposit and sheathes the hair. Beware of the whitening effect of some dry shampoos . Then dry your hair at medium temperature, not too hot, with your head down to loosen the roots.
THE POWDER SHAMPOO
The high-tech formula of The Powder Shampoo by BIOT, based on patented gelling clay, breaks new ground and is four times more concentrated than a traditional professional liquid shampoo. Respectful of all hair types, with a minimum of cleansing agents, Poudre de Shampoing by BIOT gently cleanses hair and oxygenates the scalp.
The result: shiny, light, soft and dense hair. Its nomadic format makes it indispensable when traveling, as it can be carried in hand luggage .

Gestures to give up
- Overly rich treatments weigh down the fiber and increase the impression of flat, volume-less hair.
- No hairspray to dry out fine hair.
- Heat: blow-dry hair at medium temperature, and avoid straighteners, curlers and perms.
How do you create volume and depth with fine hair?
The most widespread technique is to crimp the hair at the roots, but be careful with the comb and product you use. Christophe Nicolas Biot has mixed feelings about this technique: " On a daily basis, it damages the hair. Hairspray is too drying, and should be avoided at all costs. And the problem with the comb is that it's not environmentally friendly. You can't comb with a wooden comb, only with a plastic or tortoiseshell one. Two materials that are absolutely not environmentally friendly ..." As for extensions, often used to add volume and/or length, opt for clip-in extensions. Root extensions tend to atrophy the hair.
Is there a cut/length to adopt or avoid?
Christophe Nicolas Biot: " We often think that we should wear our hair short when it's fine, but not at all. Everything is possible, except for tapered cuts, which destroy the material even more. Everything else is possible, depending more on the shape of your head, your lifestyle, your maintenance...".
What techniques can be used in the salon?
We avoid perms and bleaches, which are too aggressive. On the other hand, coloring is a good idea. The color will coat the hair and give it body. " Priority should be given to vegetable-based coloring, which has a real sheathing effect. Fine hair is more sheathed when it's colored. With vegetable coloring, it's very sheathed! A good idea that will give you a little volume, density and a lot of shine.
