Made from natural products that are harmless to health and the environment, plant-based hair color has been on the upswing in recent years.

A forerunner in the field, Christophe-Nicolas Biot has created his own plant-based hair color, by BIOTfrom sun-dried flower, spice and plant pistils, ground to a fine powder, then mixed with hot water or detox herbal tea before application.

The benefits of vegetable coloring

Botanic Color

  • It is harmless to health
  • It is suitable for all hair types and all people (men, women, teenagers, seniors, pregnant women, people with allergies, fine, dry, oily or frizzy hair, sick people...).
  • It can be performed on a recent conventional stain.
  • We can carry out real capillary transformations
  • Fades progressively with each shampoo, with no noticeable root effect.
  • The ultimate advantage is total respect for the fiber. The result is a material that is " alive and vibrant " to the touch.

The plants used

There are many pigmenting plants used in BIOT plant dyes, including cinnamon, ginger, cocoa, coffee seed, curry, saffron, black pepper, chestnut, blueberry, chamomile and some henna.

Maintenance

To properly maintain your plant-based hair color, skip all the big-box products that contain a number of dubious additives. Instead, use products free of silicones and sulfates, and shampoos containing only natural surfactants.

What you need to know

  • Botanical hair color evolves over time. It sets better and better, and the highlights hold better and better.
  • Contrary to what we sometimes read or hear, vegetable color is not a hair care product, because while it has a sheathing effect, it is neither nourishing nor moisturizing.
  • For best results, it is preferable to detoxify hair before coloring, ideally with clays.
  • Contrary to popular belief, it' s possible to switch to conventional hair coloring after plant-based hair coloring. But in this case, you'll need to be very careful with certain products, especially bleaches for highlights. You'll need to visit your hairdresser to avoid making any mistakes.
  • As with conventional coloring, the final result is not immediately visible. It "works" for 24 to 48 hours after rinsing. This is due to light and air oxidation.
  • You can't lighten with vegetable coloring, but you can obtain tone-on-tone or a darker shade.
  • Natural vegetable hair coloring is more expensive than conventional hair coloring because it requires more expertise. You can't become an expert in plant-based hair coloring with just a training course and a flick of the wrist. In fact, it's impossible to match the work and precision of an expert with homemade vegetable coloring.

Natural vegetable hair color vs. conventional hair color

  • Contrary to popular belief, application time is not necessarily longer than for conventional coloring. It all depends on what needs to be done.
  • Botanical hair color is deposited on the hair, whereas conventional hair color opens the scales. It's the ammonia or ammonium peroxide contained in conventional colorants that opens the scales and damages the hair. Especially after several years of coloring.
