Everyone knows the benefits of hair care, but have you ever heard of night care? It's just as important for your hair's beauty and health. We've all woken up with tangled, matted or spiky hair. And that's because it's been traumatized by nights on the pillow. Whether your nights are hectic or not, you need to take care of your hair at night too...

Why take care of your hair at night?

It's important to develop a "night-time hair care" routine so you don't wake up with a disheveled mane. At night, hair tangles and rubs against pillows and sheets. Rubbing is a repeated mechanical action which, over time, damages the hair fiber and eventually causes it to break. Bed linen, meanwhile, dries hair out considerably. What's more, we often perspire at night, and the scalp easily becomes clogged.

In the morning, when the hair is tangled, we take a brush without being really tender with the knots that have invited themselves into the hair. Repeated brushing or combing won't help, and once again, the hair fiber will be badly damaged. All the more so if you have fine, curly to frizzy or color-treated hair.

The right hairstyle

Protective styles are an integral part of nighttime hair care. They are suitable for all hair types. As the name suggests, they protect hair from external aggressions, limit breakage and preserve hair's natural moisture. What's more, they help protect the face from impurities accumulated in the hair throughout the day. They therefore contribute to healthier skin in the morning.

The right products

Christophe Nicolas Biot recommends applying an oil bath before going to bed. Coconut oil or castor oil are good products. But if you have fine hair, opt for jojoba oil instead.

The ritual? Apply oil to lengths and ends, then wrap hair in a warm towel. It's essential to avoid coating the roots and scalp, as this will suffocate them. Overnight, the oil will penetrate the hair fiber to deeply nourish the hair.

You can also use an overnight hair mask, applied before going to bed and rinsed off in the morning. They repair damaged ends and add shine.

The right accessories

    • A soft silk scrunchie for making a low ponytail or tying a loose braid.
    • A silk or satin pillow.
    • A natural-fiber brush to protect hair fiber.
    • A net, scarf, charlotte or bonnet made of satin, silk or any other protective fiber.
