Don't be fooled into thinking that all waters are created equal. You have to be very careful about the water you use for shampooing. If the water is of poor quality, you can seriously damage your hair.
What you need to know about water quality
Not all water is created equal, and its quality varies according to many criteria, but above all its origin.
If your water is too hard, your hair can become dull and dry. This makes it difficult to style and can lead to brittleness.
If you use water that's too hard, the minerals will build up on the hair fiber, weighing it down and creating a poor barrier. This will cause scalp and hair disorders. The scalp will become dry and itchy. Hair becomes rough and difficult to style.
Water that's too hot will weaken hair. It increases the risk of breakage by destroying hair bonds. What's more, water that's too hot will irritate and damage the scalp. It eliminates the scalp's natural protective sebum. This will weaken the scalp and make it vulnerable to other irritants, such as the wrong styling products or dandruff-causing microbes.
Solutions
- Install a water softener: this is one of the most effective solutions for combating hard water.
- Install an anti-scale filter on the shower head.
- Make a final rinse with cider vinegar (500 ml water + 1 tablespoon organic cider vinegar).
- Or a final rinse with diluted lemon juice.
- Use lukewarm water to wash hair and finish with a spray of cool water to close the scales.
- Use specific products such as Botanic Water n°5 with its anti-scale action.
